Each player has a set of ratings which define how they will perform in the game.
Ratings are all on a scale of 0-99. Higher is always better.
In some cases a player's profile will describe a margin of error. This occurs when:
- The player was drafted from one of the international classes where scouting is less certain
- And, the player is not yet fully matured
More about the international draft.
Sometimes you'll see ratings with a "(p)" after them. The "p" represents a player's Potential.
Example: CH of 85, and a CH(p) of 87. The player currently has a CH of 85, but has the potential to reach a CH of 87. If the player is still maturing, then the player's CH will eventually reach 87. If the player is declining, then the opposite is true.
For position players the following ratings impact performance:
- AV: Formerly CH. Determines how high an average a hitter can achieve. A rating below 80 is virtually unusable at the major league level.
- PH: Determines how many extra-bse hits a hitter can achieve.
- SP: Determines how quick a player is on the base paths. A higher SP means more stolen bases, and more success going first-to-third, or scoring from second.
- EYE: Determines how many walks a hitter will draw.
- K: Determines how resistant a hitter is to striking out.
- CL: Influences how well a hitter peforms in late-inning, high-leverage situations, and in the post-season.
- vsL: Influences how well a hitter handles left-handed pitchers.
- ScPos: Influences how well a hitter performs with runners in scoring position.
For pitchers the following ratings impact performance:
- EN: Determines how long a pitcher can pitch for. There is a direct relationship between this rating and Avail. Pitches.
- CO: Determines how frequently a pitcher gets into deep counts and/or walks hitters. A higher rating means fewer walks.
- BP: Derived from the CB, CT, CU, FB, KN, SC, SI, SL, ST, and SW ratings. This equals the rating of the highest-rated pitch.
- K: Determines a pitcher's ability to strike out hitters.
- CB, CT, CU, FB, KN, SC, SI, SL, ST, SW: Pitch Ratings for Fastball (FB), Curveball (CB), Changeup (CU), Cutter (CT), Sinker (SI), Slider (SL), Splitter (ST), Sweeper (SW), Screwball (SC), and Knuckleball (KN). A higher rating means the pitch is more effective. A pitch-rating below 80 is virtually useless.
- HR: Determines how effective a pitcher is at holding runners.
- CL: Influences how well a pitcher peforms in late-inning, high-leverage situations, and in the post-season.
- vsL: Influences how well a pitcher handles left-handed hitters.
- ScPos: Influences how well a pitcher performs with runners in scoring position.
- Avail. Pitches: How many pitches a pitcher has available before they will tire. This number will fluctuate as a pitcher used (decreases pitches available) and rests (increases pitches available). The maximum number of available pitches is determined by a pitcher's EN rating.
For position players the following ratings impact defensive performance:
- AS: Arm Strength. Determines a player's ability to throw out a runner. Especially important against stolen-base attempts, runners trying to score from 2B, and runners trying to go first-to-third.
- C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, LF, CF, RF: Fielding ratings by individual positions. This affects both fielding percetage and a fielder's range. The lower the rating, the more likely to commit errors and the less likely to make wide-ranging plays. Most players can field more than one position. A rating of 50 is considered average at that position. A rating of 0 (zero) is basically like having nobody standing at that position. You should never play someone at a position for which they are rated zero.
For position players and pitchers:
- Health: A player's health rating reflects a player's ability to perform based on use or injury. If a player is injured, the health rating will be lowered. If a player is overused, the health rating will also decrease. A lower health rating will affect a player's performance, and make the player more susceptible to injury. An aging player will lose health points more rapidly, requiring occassional days off. A health rating below 90 will have anotable effect on performance, A health rating below 80 is not reccomended to play in games.
